Stephanie, Kelly and Theresa head to Boston for CEC 2008

Kelly and I, with our Department Head Theresa headed for Boston on April 2nd. Our purpose was to attend the National Council for Exceptional Children's Conference. Though we got off to a rocky start (I came down with the 24 hour yucky virous the day before we left) the rest of the trip was smooth sailing. We arrived Wednesday afternoon. We got settled into the Westin and headed out into the heart of Boston. We walked about 45 minutes to Fanueil Hall. The weather was a little brisk, so we made sure to bundle up. We walked through Quincy Market and made our way to enjoy a yummy lunch at KingFish Hall. (Theresa's friend recommended it not only for the food, but for the design of the resturant) We headed back to The Westin and got ready for opening ceremonies of The Council for Exceptional Children Convention. Henry Winkler was the guest speaker. You remember the Fonz??? Anyway, Henry struggled through school, made it...and is now a successful actor as well as children's book author.
We attended sessions through Saturday. One of the highlights was being asked to particpate in a forum for an Autism Publishing Co. They treated us to dinner on Thursday evening and asked Kelly and I plus about 10 other teachers to critique a social skills magazine. Very interesting.......
We enjoyed many fun afternoons and evenings out, waltzing down Newbury St., taking a trolley bus on a tour, and enjoying each others company. Not having to cook and eating out at yummy resturants was also a bonus! The yucky part about the trip was I lost my phone. Yikes! I have no recollection of losing it, it must of fallen out of my pocket. Anyway, to make a long story short, I pay insurance each month, so was able to quite easily get a replacement phone. The bad news....the replacement phone was a "refurbished" phone and that one had to be replaced as well. All is well with the phone situation now, plus.....a teacher from Mississippi found it, called me 10 days later and is hopefully shipping it to me as we speak. Yeah!
Kelly and I flew home Sunday am tired, but happy we went. Theresa stayed a few extra days with her sister who lives in Concord. Next year we plan to present at CEC, which means we need to get our booties in gear and write our proposal by the end of May. Wish us well.
